Halvdan Sivertsen’s song “Hus ved havet” (A House by the Sea) states in part (translated), “Life is a gift, and heaven is at times so near in a house by the sea.” This image embodies that verse, in the heavenly gift of a simple, straightforward life enjoyed by many coastal Norwegians.
